Black Book

UNITED STATES — Black Book Market Insights’ weekly report finds that the values of both motorized and towable recreational vehicle units sold at wholesale auctions increased this past month, a fact the firm notes is unusual for this time of year. In fact, the report found that the values of towables are at their highest level ever, and motorized are the highest they’ve been since July 2010.

In the Specialty Market, other areas saw similar increases:

Collectibles: Even against the backdrop of the twin hurricanes that devastated the Southern United States and Caribbean last month, several auctions recorded very impressive sales totals.

Powersports: October is another down month in the Powersports market. All year long we have seen sustained pricing weakness across all vehicle segments and most models we cover, and it appears this is going to continue as we head into the fall.

Heavy Duty: There are additional factors to consider in the monthly wholesale value movement calculation for Heavy Duty Truck values showing up this Fall.

Medium Duty: Overall, Medium Duty units continue to depreciate as we welcome the fall season. However, this segment is not dropping as fast as it has in recent years.

Wheelchair accessibility has increased in RV industry

Wheel Chair Accessible MotorHome

Great care was taken in some Winnebago floorplans to accommodate many wheelchair niceties. A platform lift easily gets you in and out of the motorhome. By Russ and Lori Tice / For the Daily Press

The ability to travel in an RV has made great advances in the area of wheelchair access. Russ and Lori want to spread the word about these new RVs and how well equipped they are for folks with various physical needs.

People considering a new RV may have friends or relatives that would love to come along for an RV adventure, yet don’t want the hassle of difficult RV entry or exit. These new wheelchair accessible RVs solve that area of concern, and the comforts go even further.

Winnebago and Newmar have some pretty cool units available this year. Very cool, is that there is a Class ‘C’ 25B Model from Winnebago. This is a new unit, built from the ground up. Certainly a pleasure to drive and easy maneuverability, Russ and Lori like this one for the 2018 model year thus far. Being it is a Class C, affordability is better as well. Of mention, the cab seats of this Class C are a step down. Most folks are good with it.

Features of this Winnebago are something to brag about. Great care was taken in the floorplans to accommodate many wheelchair niceties not found in other rigs at this value. A platform lift easily gets you in and out of the motorhome. Options include a microwave that is installed under the stovetop. Wheelchair tie downs secure the chair during travel. A wrap around privacy curtain separates the bath area from the rest of the coach. Hand flushing toilets prevent reaching down to pedestal mounted flush units. Remember, this is all in a 25 foot unit.

Newmar wheelchair accessible motorhomes are also built ground-up as well for wheelchair access. Wider aisles, roll-in showers, and lower kitchens make these units ever so comfortable to travel and camp in. Newmar has a luxury diesel motorhome market. So now, for RV folks who have wheelchair access need, the market spectrum is wide open from lower to higher cost. It’s great that there are more choices available each year overall.

Wow, this is quite an investment at either end of the cost scale. How can you be sure that even traveling in an RV is working for you? Rent one! Yes, you can rent an RV and see how you like it. Winnebago has their Ability Equipped line of RV’s. Some commercial RV rental services carry these units.

Russ and Lori have found that RVshare.com is a great place to explore RV rental options. RVshare looks for the best deals from RV dealerships as well as private owners. Each rental booked online through RVshare even comes with some roadside assistance and a 24 hour concierge. It is fun to use to when researching rigs. Thousands of rigs are listed nationwide. Search by type, special features, size, location, and pretty much any other immediate details you want to know.

Comparing daily rates can vary quite a lot, depending on where you rent. Doing your homework can save you a bundle of money. Check with your automobile insurance carrier for details about your policy and driving a rented RV. Additional insurance is sometimes warranted.

Something about renting from a private party has had interesting feedback from readers. It seems like the private owners take lots of time going over every area of their rig for you. Since they own it, they usually know of any tips for you. Commercial rentals as well, will go over the rig with you. Many renters have a checklist for pre-drive, parking, set-up, and campground departure. Enjoy traveling, meet new friends, and Let’s Get Rollin’!
